The aim of the Poets Den has always been to create a safe, nurturing community for poets. But now its founder, Abena Disroe (The High Priestess of Poetry), finds that she needs help from this very same community. Through a series of disasters and family deaths, she has gotten behind on her rent, and now finds herself in a situation where homelessness looms.
Abena has plenty of talents, including the ability to organize events, give community empowerment seminars, and deliver world-class poetry performances.
Her daughter, Asantewa (The Princess of Poetry), is no slacker, either. The founder of Homegirls4ever.org, an organization whose mission is to help at-risk teenage girls, she is a community activist in her own right. Despite being just fourteen years old, she is an award-winning spoken word artist, having performed in venues since the age of six.
So, the plan is to use the resources available, the ability to write and deliver amazing poems, to help lift these two out of their current financial quagmire. All you have to do is order a poem by calling in, telling them what kind of poem you would like, who to deliver it to, and then pay by credit card. It's only $26, and it's so easy!
If you would like to help these community-minded individuals help others, see how you can get involved.
